Newlin Grist Mill

RCL Awarded the Historical Newlin Grist Mill Visitor’s Center

The R.C. Legnini Company has collaborated with J&M Preservation and the Newlin Grist Mill to raise the existing historic train station building and the Visitor’s Center, offices and meeting rooms addition vertically approximately two feet from its current position. Known for its expertise in historical restoration, R.C. Legnini and the Grist Mill worked together to develop a cost effective plan that would minimize the impact of future flood events on this historic landmark.

Historically, the creek and the recently restored sluice gate system generated the power for the Grist Mill directly opposite from the visitor’s center. The mill was used for many purposes and lumber production was one of the most important products. The train station served as a passenger and siding for shipments and travel.

Restoration work will include accentuating the remaining railway siding track rails with a concrete walkway adorned with stencil imprints and decorative concrete techniques. There will also be a new and improved ADA ramp entrance which will be railed with wrought iron railings designed and constructed on site by the owner’s forging shop.

In addition to these improvements, there will be a new entry deck, ADA concrete parking pads in the parking area, pointing of stone masonry, historic profile wood trim repairs and new half round gutters and downspouts.

The interior of the visitor’s center will be refreshed with upgraded plumbing, electrical enhancements, and paint to restore it to its original luster. Careful grading and site improvements to the exterior of the visitor’s center will enhance the facility’s ADA accessibility, while maintaining the natural setting and atmosphere.

R.C. Legnini is proud to work with the Grist Mill team and J&M Preservation to enhance a significant, historical property that is part of our local community.
